Time Out for Juniors is designed for parents of children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 (Key Stage 2).

The course is available on CD with PowerPoints of all the sessions ready for presenting with a laptop computer and data projector. Those who prefer to use an overhead projector can print off the slides.

The pack comes as a CD-ROM and includes:

  • The full course manual (which can be printed off)
  • PowerPoint presentations of the whole course
  • PowerPoint of a special 'taster' session for promoting the course
  • Facilitator notes
  • Handouts for parents
  • Letters which can customised
  • A synopsis of the background theory and research base for each topic.

This is a universal course aimed at those whose parenting support needs may be categorised as "low to moderate".

The eight 2-hour sessions cover:

  • Understanding temperament - working with it not against it
  • Parenting style - how parental responses affect children’s behaviour
  • Boosting children’s self-esteem and the parent/child relationship
  • Setting boundaries on behaviour and attitudes
  • Strategies for maintaining boundaries
  • Handling common behaviour problems
  • Helping children develop emotional literacy
  • Teaching children to problem solve.

The course aims to support parents through change by applying knowledge and skills to individual family situations. Between sessions, parents complete homework tasks to consolidate their learning.
