Four Day Facilitator Training

Product code:  EVENT
Price:   £495.00

This four-day facilitator training course covers the latest ideas on child development and parenting and includes a brief overview of Positive Parenting courses. It is based on the National Occupational Standards for Work with Parents developed by the DfES (now DCSF) and approved by the UK regulatory bodies (QCA, SQA, ACCAC and QCA NI), focusing particularly on NOS 306 (Enabling parents to reflect on the influences on parenting and the parent-child relationship) and NOS 319 (Working with groups of parents). Participants have an opportunity to reflect and build on their practice and to co-facilitate a short parenting session to a small group.

Topics covered include:

  • the reflective practitioner
  • key principles of partnership working
  • group dynamics
  • handling difficult situations in groups
  • social, emotional, cultural and economic factors affecting parenting
  • how parents’ experience of being parented may affect their own parenting
  • the effects of different parenting styles on the parent-child relationship
  • attachment and temperament
  • age-related strategies for meeting children’s needs and managing behaviour.

The course also covers the underpinning theory, approach and strategies contained in Time Out for Parents, Time Out for Juniors and Time Out for Teenagers. Learners will be expected to co-facilitate a short session from a PP course of their choice.

Accreditation is available for this course through the Open College Network (OCN). The two units (nine credits) are assessed at QCF Level 3 through a portfolio of evidence. Accreditation is an optional extra for which there is an additional fee of £95 per candidate.

Delegates who complete this four-day course may apply (without further charge) to become a Licensed Facilitator able run any Positive Parenting course (though we recommend attendance of the appropriate Awareness Day before running any of our specialist courses).

The course fee includes sandwich lunch each day, refreshments, delegate notes, and a copy of one of the core 'Time Out' series of parents' handbooks. Accommodation is not included.

Before booking, please ensure you have read the Booking Terms and Conditions (PDF), particularly in relation to cancellation charges.
